Riot Games has not only put together a competition, but also provided various activities to explore and enjoy throughout the event, along with a merch table, developer panels, and meet and greets.
Fans are able to travel around the open bracket, watching their friends, favorite players, and anyone else competing in their matches from just a few feet away. Watching the upsets, the insane moments, the celebration of victory, and more without it coming through a screen.
In addition, the main stage features a massive screen for all to watch, along with the commentary played throughout the biggest matches.
In my first few hours, I saw cosplayers, tons of attendees wearing merchandise, and many people meeting in person for the very first time. Esports and gaming have always had that ability to bring people together from different backgrounds and walks of life, and it’s something I’m witnessing firsthand at the TFT Vegas Open.
It’s worth noting the diversity I’ve seen on just the first day as well, with people of various ages, races, and sexes not only watching but playing in the event. Open competitions such as this tend to allow for this sort of variety compared to more closed-off events, which tend to dominate most esports circuits today.
This is one of the reasons why the Halo Championship Series and its open bracket are always so well-received. These types of events provide a chance for up-and-coming players to prove their worth, fighting through the open bracket for a shot at playing with the best of the best or simply having fun competing for the first time.
The TFT Vegas Open is showcasing that this style of event is still very much alive and provides new and veteran players from all walks of life a chance to test their mettle and enjoy competition no matter where they come from.
