Paper Rex is showcasing their championship form in Los Angeles.
The Pacific League team successfully secured a spot in the Valorant Champions 2023 playoffs and are currently undefeated, with 2-0 victories over KRÜ Esports and Edward Gaming.
PRX’s Ilya “something” Petrov made a significant impact during his first international debut match, achieving an impressive 34/27/8 KDA against KRÜ. However, his performance didn’t reach the same level when facing Edward Gaming. Despite PRX securing a 2-0 victory, something had the lowest rating on his team according to vlr.
During the post-game press conference, he explained why he felt frustrated during their match against EDG and how his anger fueled one of the most remarkable highlights of the Valorant Champions 2023 group stage.

PRX secured a decisive 13-7 win on the first map of the match, Fracture. In the second map, PRX initially trailed 11-6 on Pearl. However, they gradually built momentum as something began to gain steam.
After winning three straight rounds, he made an incredible entry play where he eliminated four Edward Gaming players guarding the B site. EDG managed to push Pearl to overtime, but PRX was able to close it out 16-14.
During the press conference, he was asked to react to his standout moment during the 21st round on the map Pearl. He proceeded to provide a detailed explanation of this particular instance.
“I was angry,” he said. “This is because I didn’t kill any person in this game. I didn’t find kills, and this is why I just wanted to push.”
On Pearl, he was pitted against EDG’s Zheng “ZmjjKK” Yongkang, a standout player from Masters Tokyo. He then detailed the extent of his frustration stemming from this encounter.
“I never saw him,” he said. “I go A, and they go B. I go A, and they go B. I play in middle, and end up playing retake B.”
“Maybe this was just an unlucky, but next time I just need to get a better feel for the game,” he continued.
Notably, this was also something’s official return to the PRX roster after missing Masters Tokyo because of visa issues. The last time he played on the VCT main stage, he won the Pacific League grand final MVP for leading PRX to reverse sweep DRX 3-2.
With something back on the roster, PRX’s potential knows no bounds at Valorant Champions 2023.
