Sentinels are just one loss away from ending their VCT 2023 season after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Cloud9 on the third day of the VCT Americas LCQ.

Despite showing significant improvement since their VCT Americas League run, the North American squad team encountered a recurring mishap involving a notorious agent ultimate.

Sentinels supporters believe that Zachary “zekken” Patrone was robbed of two Raze Showstopper ultimate kills on separate occasions in the VCT Americas LCQ.

Zekken’s Raze Showstopper ultimates have Sentinels fans perplexed

The first instance happened during the second game of Sentinels and 100 Thieves‘ upper bracket quarterfinal match.

On the 18th round, 100 Thieves were looking to make their way to the B site by pushing through Mid mail. After getting delayed by a Raze Paint Shells grenade, Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk tried to contest B tower.

To deny 100 Thieves’ push, zekken activated Raze’s Showstopper ultimate and shot it directly at Asuna. While the rocket was in mid-air, Asuna elevated himself using Raze’s Blast Pack. While the Showstopper ultimate wasn’t a direct hit, it was still surprising how it didn’t cause enough damage to kill Asuna.

VCT watch party host Tarik “tarik” Celik expressed surprise and asked, “How did that rocket do nothing?”

Fortunately, zekken capitalized on Asuna having no weapon accuracy since he was still in the air. Zekken eliminated Asuna and then regrouped with his team, providing them the necessary advantage to reclaim control of the B site.

The second time it happened was during the second game of Sentinels and Cloud9’s upper bracket semifinal match.

On the 11th round, Cloud9 made their way into B tree while zekken was pushing B tunnel. After seeing the enemy Raze, zekken immediately activated Raze’s Showstopper ultimate and shot it. The rocket landed directly under the enemy Raze’s feet, but it didn’t do any damage.

Kyedae “kyedae” Shymko, who was supporting her fiance Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, was frustrated after seeing the play unfold. “Zero damage is just straight stupid,” she said.

Former Sentinels player Jay “Sinatraa” Won chimed in and said, “I’m a Raze expert, and that’s a glitch.”

Even Yassine “Subroza” Taoufik, the pro who started the whole Roza ult meme, couldn’t believe the ultimate didn’t kill. “Fix the game,” said Subroza.

Despite the unfortunate incident, Sentinels were able to retake the B site and defuse the spike.

Sentinels went on to win Fracture 13-5 but lost the series 2-1 after Cloud9 won the final game on Split 13-8.

Sentinels will play against Leviatán in the lower bracket semifinal on July 18, 4 p.m. PT | 11 p.m. GMT | July 19, 7 a.m. GMT+8 | July 19, 8 a.m. JPT/KST.
