VCT Masters Tokyo will be one of the biggest Valorant tournaments of the year.

With the introduction of the international leagues at the start of the VCT 2023 season, Riot Games will only host one Masters event this year, so the stakes are even higher for the 12 qualified teams.

The teams that excel at the event will gain a significant advantage over their peers, propelling them closer to securing a spot at Valorant Champions 2023.

The major regions — Pacific, Americas, and EMEA — fly out three representatives to Japan. In addition, since Fnatic won VCT LOCK//IN, they earned their region one additional slot for the event.

The teams participating in the event will be joined by the two highest-ranking teams from China, who earned their qualification through the FGC Valorant Invitational’s Act 1.

Here’s everything you need to know about Masters Tokyo, including its schedule, results, standings, format, teams, and where to watch the tournament.

It is the second international tournament of the VCT 2023 season, held after the Pacific, Americas, and EMEA international leagues.

All twelve teams in the tournament made their way through a successful regional regular season and playoff run.

The event will take place at two locations. From June 11 to 21, the tournament will take place at the Tripstar Dome, located in Chibi Park. The final two days of the event will be at Makuhari Messe convention center outside of Tokyo.

VCT Masters Tokyo format

The 12 teams were split into two groups. The winners of the international leagues advance to the playoffs, while the rest begin their run in the group stage. Since the EMEA region has four representatives for winning VCT LOCK//IN, the runner-up squad will advance to the playoffs.

The eight teams outside of the playoffs will go through a double-elimination group stage, with each group playing in a four-team double-elimination bracket. The top two teams with the best record from each group will advance to the playoffs.

The four teams that advance from the group stage will be randomly placed in the playoff bracket. In addition, teams from the same group will be placed on the opposite of the bracket to avoid rematches in the early stages of the playoffs.

All matches will be a best-of-three, except for the lower bracket final and grand final, which will be a best-of-five.

Masters Tokyo patch

The tournament will be played on Valorant patch 6.10, where Brimstone’s Sky Smokes and Orbital Strike were updated so the size of the abilities matches with the targeting reticles.
