Waylay, a kaleidoscope of light, becomes pure radiance as she moves. Across the battlefield, she’s a fleeting shimmer, slicing through enemies with concentrated light before vanishing, a phantom in the instant. Besides her distinct playstyle, she also introduces a new mechanic to Valorant.
Since launch, Jett and Raze have defined the “space-taking duelist” in Valorant, June Cuervo, Valorant Game Designer explained. The team knew players needed a new option in this vital role. Waylay’s dash mixes the best of both worlds: Raze’s unpredictable mobility and Jett’s lightning-fast repositioning.
Plus, her Refract ability lets her safely capitalize on those aggressive plays, ensuring she can lead the charge without sacrificing herself, wrote June.
“Waylay fulfills the same role as Jett and Raze, but has different strengths and weaknesses. Maps where
the bombsites have lots of nooks and crannies to dash to such as Icebox and Ascent are maps where
Waylay thrives,” they added.
It’s a debuff! Hindering mechanic in Valorant explained
Hindering applies a debuff that slows, which impacts:
- Fire Rate
- Recoil Recovery
- Equip Time
- Reload Speed
- Movement Speed
- Jump Speed
As the team’s primary initiator, Waylay excels at creating chaos and taking space. Her flexible kit empowers her to dictate the pace of site entries, utilizing her dash, grenade, and ultimate to engage from unconventional positions, June explained.
While she can create openings on her own, Waylay’s effectiveness is amplified by coordinated plays. A teammate’s intel or crowd control can ensure her aggressive pushes convert into kills, minimizing the need for her escape.

Refract
Instantly create a beacon of light on the floor.
Reactivate to speed back to your beacon as a mote of pure light. You are invulnerable as you travel.
Light Speed
Equip to prepare for a burst of speed. Fire to dash forward twice. Alt Fire to dash once.
Only your first dash can send you upward.
Saturate
Instantly throw a cluster of light that explodes upon contact with the ground, hindering nearby players with a powerful movement and weapon slow.
Convergent Paths
Equip to focus your prismatic power. Fire to create an afterimage of yourself that projects a beam of light.
After a brief delay, you gain a powerful speed boost and the beam expands, hindering other players in the area.
